Academic Team
The Joe Harrison Carter Academic Team consists of 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders. Students take a written assessment to determine team membership. Team members practice throughout the year to extend their learning and prepare for the Governor’s Cup competition in the spring. The Governor’s Cup consists of eight events:

- 5 Written Assessment Exams- Math, Science, Social Studies, Language Arts and Arts/Humanities
- Composition- On-Demand Writing
- Quick Recall- also known as “quiz bowl”
- Future Problem Solving- an award-winning creative thinking competition
